The five stages of grief

Everyone experiences grief at some point in their life.

Whether it is from the death of a loved one or the end of a relationship, these major life changes can really affect us.

When we grieve, we go through all sorts of emotions.

Read on to find out what are the five stages of grief and how they can help us identify what we may be feeling when we experience loss:

1. Denial

Denial is the first stage of grief. When you experience loss, it can be difficult to process, and pretending that nothing has changed is quite common.

You are in a state of shock, and can also experience conflicting and intense emotions.

It is common to wonder how life will go now that you experienced a drastic change.

Denial is a stage that actually helps you cope with grief because you are living in a ‘different’ reality and instead of becoming overwhelmed with grief, you refuse to accept it.

The best crystal for this stage is Rhodonite. This beautiful pink gemstone can help calm overwhelming feelings and encourage you to move forward.

2. Anger

Once the denial and shock start to fade, anger starts to set in. This is the stage where you ask yourself ‘why?’ and think ‘I don’t deserve this!’.

You feel abandoned and alone. Feelings of betrayal and injustice are very common at this stage.

You want to find someone to blame for your grief, and you may redirect your anger towards friends and family.

Anger is a necessary stage of grief, as it helps go through the process and dissipates over time.

It is not healthy to suppress your feelings of anger because it brings you to reality.

Smoky Quartz is the perfect crystal for this stage. It helps relieve feelings of anger and anxiety. It brings emotional calmness and gives you clarity of mind.

3. Bargaining

The third stage of grief is bargaining. This is the stage where we try to make compromises.

This is a typical sign that you can’t let go and accept what’s happening to you.

You are so desperate to turn things back to how they were, that you convince yourself that you can avoid the grief through some type of negotiation.

During this stage, you can use Rose Quartz to encourage feelings of self-love. You can also use it as a reminder to put yourself first.

4. Depression

Depression is very common during the grieving process. We feel empty and start to realize what we have lost. In this stage, you feel numb, lose interest in life, and want to stay alone.

If you feel really hopeless, you might even experience suicidal thoughts. Thankfully, you can use crystals to assist.

Black Onyx and Apache Tears are great for lifting feelings of sadness and depression. They protect you from negative energies and help soothe negative feelings.

They also provide support and bring the comfort and clarity you need to finally accept the situation.

5. Acceptance

The last stage of grief is acceptance. It is when you finally come to terms with what happened and move forward.

In this stage, your emotions begin to stabilize and negative feelings start to dissipate.

You learn to find happiness in your current circumstances. There will be good days, there will be bad days, but you learn to live with it.

In this stage, you start to engage with friends and family again, you move and grow.

To get through this stage, you can use Moonstone, which is the stone for new beginnings. By soothing emotional instability, Moonstone teaches you to appreciate fresh starts.
